I'm Lesley Thomas, the self-employed massage therapist behind Southsea Soul Soother. I began my journey into holistic therapies well over 20 years ago. My initial exposure to practices such as Reiki, Shiatsu, the Alexander Technique, Qi Gong, and other forms of bodywork occurred while studying acting at Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh.
I love learning new skills and believe it is so important to offer my clients something new and interesting. My practice is based in the comfort and safety of my home in Southsea, where women are welcomed with warmth and made to feel at ease.
My lecturers came from diverse backgrounds and they taught me how to use and respect my body correctly through dance, movement and holistic therapies. A huge fan of receiving massages myself, I was later inspired to delve deeper into this field. I retrained at the Southsea School of Massage under the guidance of trainer Laurie Gee, solidifying my passion in the art of therapeutic bodywork.
This passion led me to expand my skill set, adding numerous specialties to my repertoire, such as Indian head massage, remedial massage therapy, hot stone massage, and reflexology for both the feet and face and face mapping and treatments with the dermalogica institute.
My dedication to holistic wellness also inspired me this last year to study Thai table stretching and, most recently, Reiki healing. This diverse array of therapies allows me to offer a deeply personalised and comprehensive approach to my client’s well-being. I’m able to combine all these therapies during my treatments where needed which makes it all the more fresh and exciting for me and varied and interesting for my customers.
Operating from home and being self-employed allows me to offer a uniquely personal experience, free from the pressures of rigid schedules or inflated prices. This environment ensures that each client receives my full attention, with plenty of time to relax without being ushered out to make way for the next customer. It also gives me the ability to be available for my two teenage children and husband.
Its a very relaxed atmosphere and you’ll find me friendly and down to earth. If you’re looking for a polished spa or salon space, then this is not your place. What you will find is complete honesty, genuine care in you, and probably the most comfortable massage couch in Southsea, with its heated pads, feather topper, and fresh, clean sheets and towels, blown dry on the washing line (weather permitting!)
I specifically choose to cater to women of all ages who are seeking someone to provide both physical and mental relief. My client base is wonderfully varied, but my aim is always the same: to create a space where women feel held, listened to, and cared for.
Every treatment I provide is made to ensure that when you leave my treatment room, you feel significantly better—both in body and mind—than when you first arrived. My massage style is a fusion of everything I have learned over the years. It strikes a perfect balance—neither superficially light and feathery nor so deep that it causes tears of pain. Instead, my treatments are both therapeutic and deeply relaxing.
I have a deep understanding of the mental and physical trials and tribulations that women often experience and my intuitive approach allows me to identify where your aches and pains are, often instinctively, and treat you in exactly the way you need to feel relief and renewal.
I’ll even find aches you didn’t know you had! Every massage is like a conversation without words – a chance to listen, to heal and to connect through the language of touch. I believe that regular massage, while undeniably a wonderful luxury, is also one of the most beneficial things a woman can do to improve and maintain her physical and mental health. I may be hugely biased, but I truly see it as a transformative therapy.
Personally, I find the act of massaging to be incredibly meditative—it’s something I benefit from as much as my clients. I love watching how the body responds and witnessing the tangible difference in a person’s whole demeanor from the beginning to the end of a session. I also love the chat and company of all the amazing Southsea women who walk through my door. They come from all walks of life, spanning all ages, each seeking something different from their time with me.
I feel incredibly honoured that they choose to visit me time and time again—it’s a privilege to be a part of their journey toward well-being. They will always find me ready to listen, flexible and incredibly approachable. I offer treatments from Monday through to Saturday with evening appointments on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6pm.
