The Southsea Coastal Scheme has unveiled its latest section of sea defences between Blue Reef Aquarium and the Hovertravel terminal, just in time for the Easter bank holiday. Work began in October 2024, strengthening this stretch of seafront to provide protection against a 1-in-200-year flood event.
The upgraded area features a wider promenade, new cycle lanes, improved road layout with a reduced speed limit, and enhanced public spaces including seating, planting and play areas. Highlights include the newly named Centenary Place, now a vibrant social hub, and a central ‘memorial walk’ showcasing historic monuments. Work continues further along the seafront, with the full Southsea Coastal Scheme expected to be completed by 2029.
