Aspex Portsmouth’s major group exhibition, CLASSifications, explores the intricate themes of class and identity. This exhibition features new and pre-existing works from four artists, both local and international, coming together for the first time.
Visitors to the gallery will experience a multi-disciplinary installation that weaves a rich tapestry of celebratory, explorative, and surprising methods.
A collection of thought-provoking, object-based works, the exhibition invites audiences to immerse themselves among these objects, reflecting on the lives they (mis)represent and questioning how class is embedded, marketed, and co-opted by prevailing narratives. Visitors will be encouraged to contemplate what class looks like nationally and internationally, how class intersects with identity, and how class affects the way people consume, create, and discuss art.
