Just off Albert Road is one of the best pubs in the whole of Southsea - it literally has something for everyone! Although it is not the largest of pubs,It has 4 distinct areas that offer different social experiences, namely the main bar area with jukebox and a couple of TV screens; the quieter bar area at the back; the beautiful and character-filled garden area for vitamin D worshippers and smokers and, finally, the annex beyond the garden with a lounge feel.
The staff are fun characters who like a joke and a chat when they aren’t busy. There are also a smattering of colourful regulars that you may run into. The legendary landlady likes to cover the walls with interesting pictures and has patriotic, naval flags and memorabilia, so that you never run out of a conversation piece!
As the pub is a stone’s throw away from the Kings theatre’s stage door, there are also lots of references to stars of the British theatre. You never know, you might just run into someone famous in the pub for a post-performance pick-me-up! Definitely worth a visit as part of your Pompey experience.
