Vessel Spraying Shingle

Dredging vessel begins its work at Southsea Beach. Have you seen it?

In September, visitors to the Pyramids beachfront will witness a striking sight as the Sospan Dau dredging vessel begins its work. This vessel will transport a substantial 24,000m3 of shingle to replenish the beach near the newly constructed area. Utilising a specialised nozzle on its bow, the Sospan Dau will disperse the shingle in a mesmerising rainbow effect on every rising tide. While spectators are encouraged to observe, safety remains paramount, and maintaining a safe distance during shingle dispersal is essential.

Southsea Coastal Scheme Update

Locals can expect some out-of-hours work due to tide dependency, with the promenade between the Pyramids and Speakers’ Corner set to close from October 2, reopening in winter 2024 as work on this crucial sea defence project progresses.
